What to Expect

Since Conceptia is a private Clinic (although we are a non-profit organization) you will have to cover the cost of all other services provided at the Clinic, including the administrative fee related your first consultation. Please refer to the list of fees of the "financial matters" section. You will also have to present a valid Canadian health care card in order to consult with one of our gynaecologists/fertility specialist.

The Initial Consultation will Include:

  • Your chart opening: general information will be surveyed in order to find your file if you have been at the Dr-Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre before (as we are located in this hospital) or to open a new file. You will have to fill out a detailed health and fertility history questionnaire to help us understand your particular situation and to evaluate if an investigation needs to be continued or if we can recommend a treatment option.
  • Your meeting with the gynaecologist/fertility specialist will include:
    • Revision of your health and fertility history;
    • Revision of any previous treatments or test results sent by the physician who has referred you. It is preferable to bring to your consultation all of your previous tests regarding your fertility, or have them sent to us prior to your initial consultation;
    • Evaluation of the need to pursue the investigation before recommending an appropriate course of treatment;
    • Recommendation of an appropriate treatment according to your situation, your health, the known test results and your particular needs;
    • General explanation of the investigation to do or the treatment recommended (risks, advantages, expected success rates, etc.).
The fertility specialist will take the time to answer your questions. The more you will tell us about you, the better we will know your situation and the better we will be able to adapt to your concerns and needs. Any detail might be a determinant factor to the treatment option and outcome. Please feel free to talk to any member of our team about your previous experience, support, financial situation, etc.

We know that this is a very personal matter but please keep in mind that we are ultimately here to help you the best we can.

  • You will then be introduced to a member of our nursing team by the gynaecologist, who will summarize your situation and offer his or her recommendations of tests or treatment(s). The nurse will give you written and verbal information regarding the medical recommendations; she will discuss the steps to follow and the financial aspects, and answer any other questions you may have.
  • Investigation:
    • Basic investigation, if not already done by your physician;
    • More invasive investigation – if judged necessary and recommended by the fertility specialist prior to deciding on the best treatment for you;
    • Before starting any treatments, you will need to have routine blood work associated with the recommended treatment (including hormonal blood tests and sexual transmitted infections (STIs) for both partners)
